Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine & Acupunture
Our practice offers Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) consults. Acupuncture (AP) has become an integral part of complimenting Western and Eastern medicine to better balance and treat our patients. The majority of animals that we see are older, arthritic patients who are responding very well.
TCVM is the contemporary version of the 3,000 year old medical practice of China. TCVM is a complete theoretical and therapeutic system which includes acupuncture, herbal medicine, food therapy and massage (Tui-Na).
Acupuncture may be defined as the stimulation of specific predetermined points on the body to achieve a therapeutic or homeostatic (balanced) response. Acupuncture points are similar to a dimmer switch. If the flow of energy (Qi) becomes interrupted, it is similar to turning the dimmer switch down and allowing less electricity to pass through. With the insertion of the AP needles into an accupoint, the dimmer switch allows the energy to flow again, and allows the body to beome more balanced.
